Prawn Noodles in Penang
This Penang Hokkien Mee is a street hawker favorite. Rice and wheat noodles float in a spicy and sweet soup made from prawn heads and shells, topped with whole prawns, slivers of pork, and crispy fried onions. Hokkien Mee can refer to a number of different noodle dishes across Malaysia and Singapore, but the Penang version is particularly famous. The word Hokkien reveals this soup’s origins in China’s Fujian province.
