There are many Thai traditional arts, carving being just one of the precious heritages that have been passed from one generation to the next. This immortal art requires skill, proficiency and delicacy. Currently many people have become interested in this craft due to its Oriental beauty. People interested in carving must learn basics first, starting from knife holding and knife twisting techniques to the application of many patterns to make the carving look natural. These basics are essential for the more delicate, difficult, and complicated parts when the learners reach the higher stages of practice. In additon, carving styles can be applied to branch out new carving patterns all the time. This book was written from my own experience as a carving basic handbook for interested persons. Carving is an art that has various forms. Learners who practice regularly and are skillful enough will be able to invent the new patterns by themselves.
