Paring Knives
The Paring Knife is a common type of household blade and is one of the three absolutely essential fruit carving knives required to follow the instructions in our vegetable and fruit carving books as well as those featured in our fruit carving guides. It is commonly used for shaping fruits and vegetables before using a bird's beak knife to apply more detailed designs.
For example, if one intends to carve a rose bed into the side of a watermelon one must first cut a straight slice through to the opposite side of the watermelon in order to stabilize it. It is then necessary to delineate between each rose by scoring at different depths across the melon's upper surface. Normal kitchen knives are too cumbersome for such tasks and seeding knives and bird's beak knives are too precise. The Kom-Kom Paring Knife is the perfect tool for the task and comes in three sizes:

3" Paring Knife, Kom-Kom (Yellow)

This small Kom-Kom Asian Fruit Knife is a light weight paring knife for performing kitchen tasks with ease. It is especially useful when working with small ingredients such as strawberries, figs, apricots, etc.
This Asian Fruit Knife was especially designed for keeping steady control of fruits and vegetables when cutting in hand (i.e. peeling, turning, paring, trimming, etc). They are light and versatile tools that are ergonomically designed to make common tasks quick and easy to perform. The distinctively spear-shaped blade is 4 inches long, the blade extending about a third of the way down the 3.5 inch handle with a thickness of 1mm and width of 1 inch at the base.
The Kom-Kom Asian Fruit Knife is a light and durable cutting tool that works as a comfortable extension to one’s fingers and often eliminates the need for a cutting surface. Its unique blade shape is ideal for preparing and cutting fruits and also vegetables. Made from high quality materials its blade stays sharp even with prolonged use, requiring less sharpening then inferior knives. 5" Paring Knife, Kom-Kom
This paring knife has a subtle curve in both its edge and its spine. It is designed for working with larger types of fruit and vegetables.
Kom-Kom brand produces paring knives in three different sizes, with this five-inch blade being the middle of the three. Often used as an all purpose blade, this paring knife is mainly intended for intricate work such as fruit carving and cutting away the outer edges of fruits and vegetables. This unique knife is finely crafted with a double-riveted wooden handle. The larger Kom-Kom brand paring knives such as this one and the next size up (6") have very slightly curved blades, unlike Kom-Kom's 4" paring knife. Due to their function, it is important for paring knives to be kept razor sharp at all times. They are not meant for cutting solid materials such as hard shells and bone.

6" Paring Knife, Kom-Kom
This paring knife is longer and has a more accentuated curve compared to the other Kom-Kom brand paring knives, making it suitable for working with larger fruit and vegetables.
