Materials

Preparation

  1. Choose a fresh round or oval shaped watermelon and wash thoroughly.
  2. From the base of the watermelon, cut away a thin slice lengthwise to balance the melon.
  3. As a guide for cutting, sketch or carve with a tool the outlines of the baby carriage.
  4. Using a long sharp knife, cut out the section to be used for the handle.
  5. To create the wavy edges of the carrigae, use a decorating tool or knife.
  6. Cut with a sharp knife and remove the top section of watermelon rind.
  7. Hollow the carriage and attach the handle with toothpicks.
  8. Attach wheels made from orange slices and hubcaps made from strawberries and kiwis.
  9. Fill the bowl with 2 to 4 cups of fruit salad.

Preservation Tips

  1. Choose only a fresh watermelon with bright red flesh.
  2. If not serving immediately, wrap with a damp thin clean dish towel and store refrigerated.
