Chinese Long Beans, Product of USA, 8 oz
Often referred to as Chinese Yardlong beans (Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis or ถั่วฝักยาว, dtua fahk yao in Thai) this type of vigorous climbing bean flourishes in South East Asia, growing well in a subtropical and tropical climates.
In Thai cuisine it is prepared in many different ways, including stir-fried with meat (esp. Pad Prik King Moo, Pork and Longbeans Fried with Prik King Chili Paste) as an addition to Green Papaya Salad (Som Tam) or eaten steamed or raw to accompany Thai spicy chili pastes and rice.
For a simple dish try stir-frying the long beans. Chop into 1 1/2-inch pieces and fry in a hot wok with chicken, pork, or tofu, adding oyster sauce and Thai fish sauce (or soy sauce) with a little sugar to taste. This is a typical and quick dish in the Thai kitchen.
It is rich in nutrients, being high in Vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and manganese and a source of protein, Vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, phosphorus, and potassium.
