Spicy Green Papaya Salad (som tum or som tam in Thai) is a popular dish from the North Eastern part of Thailand (the largely rural Isan region) that combines spicy, sour and sweet flavors to make a classic Thai dish. This set contains Som Tum Sauce, papaya , fresh Thai chili peppers and small dried shrimp.

The best way to make this type of salad is in a clay mortar and pestle. The papaya can be either shredded with a very sharp knife or more conveniently with the Kiwi Papaya Shredder.
